BARILOCHE
CITY OF LAKES
The city of Bariloche arises at the shore of the Nahuel Huapi Lake in the Argentine province of Río Negro, neighbouring the Andes Mountain Range. The city is entirely located inside Nahuel Huapi National Park, famous for its stunning lakes and mountains, like the Tronador, which is actually a non active volcano. Today, Bariloche is one of the most populated cities in Patagonia, the base for numerous hiking and skiing slopes, an artisanal chocolate and craft beer hub.
Some of the top things to do include:
Cerro Campanario: A Panoramic Paradise
Just 7 kilometers from the center of Bariloche, Cerro Campanario offers one of the most impressive viewpoints in the area. You can reach the top by chairlift or hike up the 1.5-kilometer trail. From the 1,050-meter-high summit, you'll enjoy a breathtaking 360-degree panorama that includes Lake Nahuel Huapi, the Llao Llao Peninsula, Cerro Tronador, and Victoria and Huemul Islands. Visiting at sunset is especially recommended, when the sky's colors reflect beautifully on the lake.
Circuito Chico: A Scenic Route
This 60-kilometer scenic route takes you through some of Bariloche's most stunning landscapes. Starting from the city center, you'll drive along the Llao Llao Peninsula, passing by the famous hotel of the same name. Be sure to stop at Bahía López, the Panoramic Point, and the San Eduardo Chapel. Don't miss Colonia Suiza, where you can try the traditional curanto al disco. The circuit is perfect for driving, cycling, or taking a guided tour.
Cerro Catedral: A Skiing and Hiking Paradise
As the most important ski center in South America, Cerro Catedral attracts skiers from around the world with its 120 kilometers of slopes during winter. In the summer, it's ideal for hiking, with trails like the Refugio Frey route offering stunning views of the mountain range.
